Hospital Dresses Up Newborns as Pirates to Celebrate Pittsburgh Win

These babies are all dressed up as adorable little pirates, and it’s not even Halloween yet.
Instead, the newborns at St. Clair Hospital in Mount Lebanon, Pa., are donning Pirates onesies and bandannas,  and sporting tiny little baseball bats to celebrate the fact the Pittsburgh Pirates are in postseason play for the first time since October 1992.

“The director of marketing here, Rich Sieber, is a long-suffering Pittsburgh Pirates fan,” hospital spokesman Bob Crytzer, told GoodMorningAmerica.com. “So when the Pirates won the wildcard game the other night, needless to say, Sieber was a little excited about it.”

As soon as the Pirates won the National League Wild Card game against the Cincinnati Reds on Oct. 1, Sieber ran out to buy the Pirates onesies, miniature baseball bats, red bandannas and pirate hats, and immediately went to talk to the head nurses, physicians and the babies’ parents, who were all thrilled with the idea of dressing the newborns in Pirate regalia.

Sieber’s reasoning for getting the babies involved in the celebrations was  simple: “His generation had to wait 20 or 21 years to make it into the playoffs,” Crytzer explained, “so how about we do a little courtesy for our babies upstairs and get them on the bandwagon now?”

Starting tonight, the Pirates are in a five-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, and according to Crytzer, “Everybody is just on pins and needles to hopefully win.”
